LIVE RACING & SUMMER CONCERTS CONTINUE IN JULY AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK

Fun, Affordable Family Entertainment Includes Live Racing, Dollar Day, Vans Warped Tour, Fireworks and More This Month!

WHAT:           Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) and The Showgrounds (www.theshowgrounds.com) will host a variety family-friendly fun featuring live racing, live music events and an array of games and activities throughout the month of July. 

Thursday, July 2 is Dollar Day at The Park sponsored by StarTex Power, Dreyer’s Ice Cream and Hebrew National Hot Dogs, where parking, admission, live racing program, hot dogs, water, soda, ice cream and draft beer are available for just $1.

Friday, July 3 is 15th Anniversary Vans Warped Tour (www.warpedtour.com) in the West Lot of The Park. Vans Warped Tour is one of the most popular all-ages touring music and extreme sports festivals in America and it will return to The Park for a second year bringing a day of music from acts such as 3OH!3, The Devil Wears Prada, Flogging Molly, Bad Religion, NOFX, and Underoath along with country music performer Shooter Jennings and more!

Join us for the July 4th Celebration at The Park presented by media partners Houston Press, FOX Sports Houston and 107.5 The Eagle. The All-American event features live entertainment between races, free games and activities in the Fun Zone and live horse racing beginning at 5 p.m.  Patrons at The Park on the July 4th weekend will also have the opportunity to visit The Bud Light Lounge.

The July 4 evening will culminate with one of Houston’s largest and most patriotic fireworks displays with musical accompaniment provided courtesy of 107.5 The Eagle, immediately following live racing events.  

In addition to live racing and music events, The Park will offer a special July 4th $39 dinner package which includes admission for live racing, live racing program, and reserved seating with a spectacular view of racing events as well as the fireworks display in the Winner’s Circle Restaurant along with a holiday-themed buffet. 

On Saturday, July 11 The Park will be home to one of the fiercest competitions this summer with the Inaugural BBQ Cook-Off Event presented by the Houston Chronicle where The Park aims to find the top BBQ Cook-Off Team and Houston’s Best Ribs.  The event is open to 10 cook-off teams, consisting one head cook and up to 5 additional team members, who will prepare rib meat of any style and submit to the judging panel.  Guests will be able to sample BBQ plates from all teams starting at $10 per plate. 

Immediately following the cook-off and live racing events will be the Verizon Wireless Concert Series on the Bud Light Stage featuring the Eli Young Band (http://www.eliyoungband.com/default.aspx) . The blend of sonic exuberance and personal maturity is just one of the things that make the Eli Young Band and their Universal Republic/Universal Records South debut, Jet Black & Jealous, such an intriguing musical property.

On Saturday, July 18 The Park will host its Verizon Wireless Concert Series on the Bud Light Stage featuring the Cross Canadian Ragweed (www.crosscanadianragweed.com). Cross Canadian Ragweed, Oklahoma’s beloved country/rock quartet, has been entertaining audiences for more than 15 years with their special blend of country, rock and soul grooves.

The Park will host the TQHA Summer Showdown Friday, July 24- Saturday, July 25.  The weekend is one of the largest racing weekends of the summer meet with a series of stakes races on Friday and Saturday evening.  Post time for live racing Thursday through Saturday is 7 p.m.
